Our Featured Pet...
Gwen
Gwen when we rescued her.

And Gwen now!

Gwen is a 2 1/2 year old super sweetheart with a very sad story.
When we first met her she was at a kill shelter very thin and hairless from
mange. She was so depressed, she wouldn't even hold her head up, but when we
opened her cage door and put a leash on her, her tail started to wag. It hasn't
stopped wagging since! Gwen has now put on weight and has recovered from the
mange. She is a very beautiful girl now both inside and out. Gwen is now ready
to find her forever home.
Gwen is very friendly, but is occasionally shy with people she doesn't know.
She is usually fine around other dogs, although she can get a little grouchy if
another dog tries to take her rawhide. Due to this though we recommend she goes
to a home with no other dogs or cats. We are willing however to adopt her to a
home with another dog as long as it is of opposite sex and an adult. The
adoptive owner would also need to be familiar with dealing with introductions
and any disputes that might arise between the dogs. Gwen is full of energy
and does not understand how big she is so a home with children over 10 is also
required. Gwen is crate trained. She acts like she has lived in a home before
because she goes straight to the door wanting in even though right now she is
living outside. As you can see in the photo she loves to ride in the car. She
mostly just wants to be with people and be loved on though. She loves to
roll on her back and if you rub her belly, she will fall asleep. Gwen is also
great at getting a bath, ear cleaning and nail trim. In fact she will let
you do about anything with her. She is a super companion dog! Gwen
weighs about 50 lbs and is current on all vaccinations and has been spayed.
She is also heartworm negative and on heartworm and flea preventative. Gwen
needs a loving home with an experienced owner.

Sponsor A Pet
Have you fallen in love with one of our adoptable pets, but just can't bring
him/her home? We have a solution.
Sponsor the pet. By sponsoring an adoptable pet you will make it easier
for us to cover the huge costs of caring for these animals. Our adoption
fees only cover the vaccines and spay/neuter of an animal and sometimes they
don't even cover that. Most of the animals we take in require additional
care and medications that range from simple deworming to major things like
heartworm treatment and major surgery. These costs can quickly rise and
put a strain on the rescue. We never want to turn an animal away because
it will be too expensive to care for.
You can sponsor an animal for as little as $10. If you choose to
sponsor you will be sent a picture of the animal and its story.
Sponsorship can be a one time donation or it can be made monthly.
Here is how your donation can help:
$20 can pay for a Felv/FIV test for one cat
$30 can vaccinate one dog or cat
$50 can spay/neuter one dog or cat
$100 can vaccinate, heartworm test, and spay/neuter one dog
$100 can vaccinate, Felv/FIV test, and spay/neuter one cat
Any amount large or small is welcomed and can be combined with other
donations to cover costs. Often the animals that we take in stay with us
for several months before finding their forever home so there is also the cost
of food, treats, cedar chips, tarps (for kennels), cat litter, toys, collars,
leashes and monthly doses of heartworm preventative and flea/tick preventative.
Please contact us for more info on sponsoring a pet. See below for
contact info.
Dreamland Animal Rescue is currently looking into building a shelter
facility.
We have started looking into setting up a fund for building a shelter.
All money donated to this fund would go toward a shelter facility. This
effort is in its infancy and will take much planning. The first thing we
will need to do is find a location for the shelter. Any locations we
consider would have to be examined as to building codes or restrictions.
We also would like a location near a main highway to provide easy access to the
public. A location centrally located in the county near Whitesburg would
also be preferred. We do not want the shelter located in an out of the way
place like many of the public shelters, because this cuts down on visitors.
A location that provides room for future expansion would be a real plus.
If you have a piece of property you would like to donate or sale at a reduced
cost to the rescue please let us know.
After we get a piece of property to build on
we will have to decide on the type of building and size. A lot will depend
on how much money we can raise. We will probably start out with a small,
temporary (to be used for a few years) structure and then work on getting a
larger, well designed and functional shelter.
If you would like to donate to the shelter
fund please let us know. Write "shelter fund" on checks and include
"shelter fund" when making a donation via PayPal.
If you are a business that would be interested
in donating supplies when we start to build, this would be greatly appreciated.
Just let us know what you have in mind.
We are now a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. All
donations made are tax-deductible.
WE URGENTLY NEED FOSTER HOMES!!!! Foster homes are needed for dogs,
puppies, cats, and kittens. Since we do not have a shelter all of the animals
that we rescue must be placed in foster homes until they can find their forever
homes. This means we can not take in new animals unless we have foster homes
to place them into. Fostering is a great way to help an animal in need while
he/she waits for his/her permanent home. Foster homes provide a safe haven
where an animal can get the tender loving care he or she needs. Foster
homes also help teach animals about living in a home environment and how to
trust people. DAR provides all medical care and medicines that a foster animal
may need and the foster home agrees to provide food, cat litter, etc.
Often we have these items available through donations that can be used when
available.

If you cannot foster, but would still like to help contact us about sponsoring
a pet. Sponsoring a pet means that you donate an amount toward the care of a
specific animal. This money may be used to cover a special medical procedure,
medications, or to reduce the pet's adoption fee to make him/her more appealing.
Sponsorships can be done as a one time gift or on a monthly basis until the
animal is adopted.
2nd CHANCE FUND

The 2nd Chance Fund was set up in honor of Chance, one of our first
rescues with serious medical problems. His injuries required that
his leg be amputated. This put a huge strain on the rescue to pay
his medical bills, because we won't give up on any animal if we feel we
can give them a good quality of life in a loving home. The 2nd
Chance Fund was set up to help pay these added expenses to insure that
we never have to turn an animal away because his/her medical expenses
are too high. Chance is now happy and healthy and has been
adopted. If you would like to help other animals like Chance
please send donations to P.O. Box 249 Ermine, KY 41815. Please write
2nd Chance Fund on check to ensure it goes to this cause.
***PLEASE NOTE***
At this time we do not need donations of food!! (We have a very
limited area to store the food)
What we really need are monetary donations to help pay vet bills,
travel costs, etc.
If you would like to donate items though, these are what we need right
now:
Scoopable cat litter
Cedar chips (to be used for bedding in dog houses)
Dog treats and toys
Cat treats and toys
Collars, especially cat safety collars
******************************
We need:
Purina Kitten Chow
Purina Cat Chow
Canned cat food
Cat toys
Scoopable and Non-Scoopable cat litter
Purina Puppy Chow
Purina Dog Chow
Kong dog toys
Nylabone dog toys
Dog treats and biscuits
Rope dog toys
Leashes and collars (all sizes)
Carriers and crates (all sizes)
Who We Are
Dreamland Animal Rescue is dedicated to helping stray, abandoned and abused animals
find new, loving, forever homes. We do
not have a shelter, so all of are animals are placed in foster homes. Some of
the animals also spend time at our veterinarians office until they can
be placed in foster homes. We are in great need of foster homes for dogs, puppies,
cats and kittens. If you would like to foster an animal please contact us.
Adopting a friend
If you are interested in adopting one of our available pets click
here to fill out an adoption application. We will contact you as soon as possible.
If you would like more information about a particular pet please feel free to
e-mail us your questions. There is an adoption fee for each pet adopted. The
adoption fee for most cats and kittens is $90. The adoption fee for most
dogs and puppies is $100. This fee includes vaccinations and spay or
neuter. All animals are kept on flea and tick preventative and all dogs
are kept on heartworm preventative. Cat adoption fee includes ($90):
Felv/FIV test, 4/1 vaccine*, Felv vaccine*,
1 year rabies vaccine, fecal check, deworming and spay/neuter*.
Dog adoption fee includes($100): 8/1 vaccine*,
Bordatella vaccine*,
1 year rabies vaccine, Heartworm test (if over 6 months of age), fecal
check, deworming and spay/neuter*.
*Note: Puppies and kittens receive a series of
vaccinations. All puppies and kittens will be up to date on
vaccines at the time of adoption. Some animals may require
boosters after they have been adopted. It is the responsibility of the
new owner to make sure the puppy/kitten receives these vaccinations.
*Note: Animals are not spayed/neutered until
they reach at least 5 months old. Any animal adopted that has not
yet been spayed/neutered will have an appointment made with our
veterinarian to have this surgery when the animal is old enough. This is
included in the adoption fee, so all the adoptive family must do is
bring the animal to the vet for their appointment. If someone
wishes to adopt an animal, but lives too far away to bring the animal to
our veterinarian, then they must schedule an appointment with their
veterinarian to have the animal spayed/neutered. They must then
send a letter of proof from their veterinarian stating that the animal
has been spayed/neutered.
Come Visit Us!
We do not have a shelter, but if you are interested in a pet we can arrange a
meeting for you.
